Commerce Policy
Meta's rules governing what products and services can be sold or promoted through WhatsApp Business, including restricted industries and content types.
How it works
The WhatsApp Commerce Policy defines what businesses can and cannot do on the platform. It covers prohibited content (weapons, drugs, adult content, counterfeit goods), restricted industries (alcohol, gambling, financial services, healthcare), and messaging rules (no spam, deceptive practices, or unauthorized data sharing). Violations can result in template rejections, account restrictions, or permanent bans. The policy applies to all message types including templates, session messages, and catalog items. Businesses in regulated industries may need to include disclaimers or age gates. Understanding the commerce policy is critical before building any WhatsApp-based marketing or sales flow, as retroactive enforcement can disrupt established campaigns.
